![]() Indiana Jones Room Makeover created by Michelle Gonzalez, Room Revisions LLC Anthony is like most teenage boys. He loves playing video games like "Lord of the Rings" or "Indiana Jones "after school. However, Anthony also has Muscular Dystrophy and spends a lot of time in his bedroom or wheelchair while at home. His bedroom is painted sky blue and features a beautiful tree mural featuring roping and a happy monkey (per Anthony's request) painted by Ginger Newborn, owner of Newborn Designs, Ypsilanti MI. A couple of brown suede Fedora hats hanging along with the Indiana Jones whip dangle from a wall waterfall. A new bamboo shade, brown suede bedding and a cherry wood ceiling fan complement the "Indiana Jones" motif. The waterfall is designed with blue, brown, grey mosaic tiles and small "Indiana Jones" action figures lovingly created and shipped by artist, Karen Broom, owner of Krystal Fountains located in Desert Hot Springs, California. "There is such joy in helping kids like Anthony … this goes way beyond decorating … it's all about making him happy and comfortable in his surroundings," said Gonzalez. Anthony's wheelchair was getting caught so we replaced carpet in his room and family room with oak hardwood flooring for easier mobility, installed by Abbey Flooring of Livonia, MI. A new rustic cherry wood credenza provides plenty of storage for his medical equipment and a new flat screen television. "A lot of his medical equipment was stored on a shelf and exposed prior to our room makeover," said Gonzalez. "His Mom wanted a storage solution so that he wasn't reminded "Oh yeah, I'm sick." Anthony also received a new Xbox360 and an Indiana Jones video game. Anthony is so excited about his new bedroom. He tells friends at school about his room makeover but they don't believe it. He will receive a before/after photo album to share with his classmates. Anthony lives with his Mom in a small home in Farmington Hills. "Karen is a loving, upbeat Mom. She is also a single working parent. I admire her and everything she does," said Gonzalez. This project was generously sponsored by the participants, donors, and volunteers of the 8th Annual Kelly J. Price Memorial Bowling Party, which took place on March 15, 2008, at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights, Michigan. |
