![]() Katherine has the most wonderful smile!! She is a typical teenager who loves pretty things, music, American Idol, and especially the North Carolina Tar Heels! But she also was born one of a set of triplet girls and spent the first 11 months of her life in a hospital. She has Cerebral Palsy and Short Bowel Syndrome. Katherine has spent her life in a wheelchair and requires continuous care from her devoted family. According to her mother she never complains except about twice a year for about 2 minutes. She is positive and upbeat and makes everyone laugh with her sense of humor. When she dreams, she dreams of herself walking and running. To get started we let her pick out her bedding from Pottery Barn Teen, which was one of her favorite catalogs. Then the rest would be a surprise. But first we had to raise the money to redo her room. We came up with the idea for a bowling fundraiser with her sisters' school where her mother also teaches. Before we knew it we had the Student Council, The Honor Society, the school secretaries, teachers, and many others involved. The event was a huge success, and it was a special day for Katherine who was queen of the event. She later told her parents it was the "BEST DAY OF HER LIFE"! Katherine is thrilled with her new room, and it has special meaning to her because her sisters, Liz and Mary, go off to college in the fall. This is her "dorm room". We were also able to get her a laptop with a webcam and voice recognition software so that she can keep in touch with her sisters, including big sister Erin who teaches in North Carolina. This family was a joy to watch interact and hopefully some of that can continue between visits from college with her webcam. Katherine and her family touched all of our hearts! Team Leader:
